• It is of service when the heart's action is rapid and feeble, the pulse is irregular and weak, there is severe dyspnoea, and a condition or arterio - sclerosis present.
• It is useful in nephritis when there is a permanent high arterial tension with senile rigidity of the arteries.
• It should be remembered in anasarca, when diuresis can be promoted by an increased blood pressure.
• If continued for a period, it has a favourable influence in many cases of exophthalmic goiter.
