Indication

Brucinum is a potent alkaloid closely related to Strychnia, extracted from Strychnos nux vomica. Though similar in origin, Brucinum exhibits a distinct pharmacological profile, with less violent convulsions and no involvement of the pharynx or esophagus, unlike Strychnia. Its primary action is on the muscular and nervous systems, where it helps in sudden jerking, particularly of the lower extremities, and muscular twitching, even in previously paralysed muscles. The clinical picture often ends in a brief fever followed by deep sleep, making it useful in select neurological conditions with paralytic or motor disturbances.
